Learn to read, write and speak in your mother tongue of Gujarati

From ka, kha, ga to singing songs to reading a Gujarati newspaper

As first and second generation Gujarati Canadians we agree that retaining the language is of prime importance as is retaining the rich heritage that defines us as Gujarati. While reading and writing is vital to establishing a sound basis for any language, equally or more important is the ability to speak and understand. We this in mind, we have established a template curriculum for each of the 4 levels of Gujarati at Vidhya-Kunj.

The basic idea is to have Levels 1 and 2 dedicated to providing a sound foundation in reading and writing skills so that when children get to Level 3 and 4, the teachers can provide instruction on actual speaking and understanding Gujarati at home or with other Gujarati friends and family. The purpose of Vidhya-Kunj should not be to create Gujartai scholars but to learn the communications skills necessary to retain our language for coming generations.
